Supporting Your Family — Simply and Securely

We understand how overwhelming it can feel to navigate mental health care for your child or teen. At Closer Horizons, our goal is to safeguard their privacy—both now and in the future—while providing the highest level of individualized support. That’s why we operate as a private-pay practice, accepting cash, check, or Venmo at the time of service. Although we do not bill insurance directly, we’re happy to provide a superbill upon request, which you may submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

Support Shouldn’t Be Out of Reach

We recognize that finances can sometimes add stress, and we want to help in any way we can. If you have questions about payment options, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We offer a limited number of monthly sliding scale slots. If you’d like to be considered, please submit your information on our Contact page and indicate your interest in sliding scale payments.

Fee FAQs

  • At Closer Horizons, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, leading to cancellations or missed appointments. To ensure the best possible care for all our clients, we have established the following policies:

Payment Policy: Payment is due at the time of service and can be made by cash, check (made out to Dr. Kenya Guarnieri) or Venmo. This ensures a smooth and consistent experience for both clients and providers.

Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel an appointment without incurring a fee. This allows us to offer the time slot to another client in need.

Missed Appointments: If an appointment is missed or canceled with less than 24 hours' notice, a fee of $100 will be charged. This fee is due before your next scheduled session.

Late Arrivals: Arriving late to your appointment can impact the quality of your session and affect subsequent appointments. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we may need to reschedule, and a late cancellation fee may apply.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these policies, as they help us maintain a high standard of service for all our clients.

  • At this time, Closer Horizons does not accept insurance which allows us to ensure that your child or teen’s unique needs remain at the forefront of our work together. By making this choice, we’re able to:

    • Provide greater clinical autonomy. Treatment decisions stem from our professional judgment and your personal goals, rather than requirements set by insurance companies. Which reduces the pressure to over-pathologize, helping preserve self-confidence and a positive sense of identity.

    • Uphold confidentiality and privacy. Opting out of insurance means we don’t submit clinical details or rationales tied to a diagnosis, granting your child or teen an added layer of security and discretion—particularly important as they navigate the transition into adulthood.

    • Deliver truly individualized care. With fewer restrictions and no obligation to meet insurance criteria, our sole focus is on crafting a therapeutic approach that honors your child or teen’s unique journey, aspirations, and well-being.
